{"id":1064,"date":"2023-01-17T12:57:43","date_gmt":"2023-01-17T12:57:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/technion.dooble.us\/?page_id=1064"},"modified":"2025-05-27T08:07:31","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T08:07:31","slug":"energy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/energy\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #002147;\"><strong>The Nancy and Stephen Grand <\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #002147;\">Interdisciplinary<\/span> <\/strong><span style=\"color: #002147;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #002147;\">Energy<\/span> Program<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<hr \/>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The need for clean energy sources has always been a major challenge for humanity \u2013 these days more than ever. The production of energy from fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) harms nature and pollutes our planet. Therefore, there is a real necessity to develop alternative energy sources that are clean, renewable, and sustainable. Clearly, there is no single magic solution to the global energy problem. Therefore, we must develop a range of solutions that will be implemented in different combinations in different parts of the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To address this critical issue, the Technion has established an interdisciplinary energy research program that addresses a wide range of fields, including alternative fuels, energy storage and conversion, renewable energy sources, and energy conservation and management.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The goal of the Technion\u2019s Graduate Program in Energy Studies is to build a knowledge base for outstanding and highly motivated students who aspire to work in the energy field, for the benefit of the State of Israel and its population. The program&#8217;s vision is to cultivate the scientific and engineering workforce that will lead the energy sector in Israel and around the world \u2013 in academia, industry, and key decision-making positions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Future energy engineers and scientists will require a broad understanding of diverse topics from classical engineering and science disciplines, as well as from the fields of entrepreneurship, economics, and policy. Consequently, the proposed curriculum will train engineers and researchers who possess a comprehensive, systemic perspective on all relevant aspects of energy-related activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #002147;\"><strong>MSc and ME Studies:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><br \/>\nTwo research-based MSc tracks:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Master of Science in Energy Engineering (with thesis)<\/strong> \u2013 for Engineering graduates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Master of Science in Energy (with thesis)<\/strong> \u2013 for science graduates.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><br \/>\nTwo non-thesis ME tracks:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>ME in Energy Engineering <\/strong>\u2013 for Engineering graduates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Master of Energy <\/strong>\u2013 for science graduates.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #002147;\"><strong>PhD <span style=\"color: #002147;\">Studies<\/span>:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program is designed for students with a master\u2019s degree in engineering or exact sciences who have demonstrated outstanding academic and research achievements. Each candidate&#8217;s qualifications will be reviewed individually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Direct PhD:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Outstanding students who have begun a master\u2019s program with a thesis and who excel in both their classes and research may transfer to the direct PhD track, subject to the recommendation of the interdisciplinary committee. These students must complete at least 8 advanced course credits in addition to their master&#8217;s requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Special PhD Program:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This track is designed for exceptional students (&#8220;<em>summa cum laude<\/em>&#8220;) who wish to pursue a PhD immediately after completing their bachelor&#8217;s degree.
