{"id":1221,"date":"2023-01-19T12:03:04","date_gmt":"2023-01-19T12:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/technion.dooble.us\/?page_id=1221"},"modified":"2025-05-27T07:58:36","modified_gmt":"2025-05-27T07:58:36","slug":"materials-science-and-engineering","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/materials-science-and-engineering\/","title":{"rendered":"Materials Science and Engineering"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #002147;\"><strong>Department of Materials <span style=\"color: #002147;\">Science<\/span> and Engineering<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<hr \/>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nThe objectives of graduate studies are to deepen and expand the basic knowledge of materials science and engineering and to develop capabilities for contending with complex problems that materials engineers encounter in their various spheres of activity.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><br \/>\nThe Department of Materials Science and Engineering offers several graduate degree programs.<\/strong> These programs are open to graduates holding a BSc in engineering and to graduates of faculties of sciences (such as mathematics, physics and chemistry) from an accredited academic institution, as specified in the links.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nThese programs are intended for outstanding graduates holding BSc and MSc engineering degrees. Students with a BSc applying for admission to an MSc program will be required to complete additional credit points.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Advanced degree studies involve primarily scientific research. During the course of study students tackle research questions, learn approaches to solving them, acquire hands-on experience using a variety of experimental methodologies, learn how to analyze the results of their experiments and discuss their implications. The emphasis is on independent analytical thinking, keeping abreast of the current literature and gaining familiarity with emerging topics in the various disciplines of materials science and engineering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Graduate students take advanced courses in topics relating to core subjects and research those topics. They participate in research under the guidance of the senior faculty members and take part in teaching and tutoring assignments in the Department&#8217;s laboratories.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Graduate students also take part in scientific and engineering research at the Materials Engineering Research Center, which encompasses a wide variety of important and advanced subjects.
