{"id":6211,"date":"2025-02-09T11:40:53","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T11:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grad-new.web3dev.technion.ac.il\/?page_id=6211"},"modified":"2025-07-09T09:06:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T09:06:18","slug":"rules-for-advising-scholarship-recipients","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/rules-for-advising-scholarship-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"Rules for Advising Scholarship Recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong><span style=\"color: #002147;\">Rules for Advising Scholarship Recipients<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The responsible advisor is the one to be in direct contact with the scholarship recipient and is the connecting link between them and the Departmental Committee (and the school), for a range of topics regarding the study program, receipt of scholarship (including following the Terms of Receipt of Scholarship: Being at the Technion and Working Parallel to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/scholarship-criteria\/\">Receipt of Scholarship; Accumulation of Study Credit; Submitting Topic of Research Thesis<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Other than in exceptional cases, any requests submitted to the school by a scholarship recipient must be referenced by the advisor and the Departmental Committee Coordinator.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Any information that the advisor passes on to the student or scholarship recipient must be consistent with the school\u2019s regulations and procedures. In any event of contradiction of information, the school\u2019s regulations and procedures, and information published on the website, will be valid.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The main advisor is in direct contact with the scholarship recipient. The advisor is required to authorize ahead of time any absence of the scholarship recipient from the Technion in accordance with the requirements detailed in the section entitled \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/absence-from-technion\/\">Absence from the Technion for Scholarship Recipients<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Graduate School scholarships are granted according to academic considerations only. The threshold for receiving scholarships is determined by the each department separately and may change from semester to semester, but in no event will be lower than an accumulative GPA of 80. The condition regarding the minimal GPA of 80 applies for the entire period of the scholarships recipient\u2019s study and it is forbidden to diverge for the entire time of scholarship receipt.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Granting of scholarships is intended to allow for time to be dedicated to research and to create conditions that will result in completion of requirements for a degree by the end of the period of scholarship. The duration of scholarship receipt is limited and changes according to the type of degree and the department.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">For further information, see\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/scholarship-duration\/\">Duration of Receipt of Scholarship<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Research Progress Grade:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">* The grade given once per semester by the advisor is a valuable tool which allows the advisor to quantitatively critique the scholarship recipient\u2019s progress in research, beyond the impression received in their daily interactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">* It is very important to be precise, so that the grade will reliably reflect the advisors opinion regarding progress in research.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">* In cases where sufficient progress has not been made in the research, documentation of the situation is imperative in order to allow measures to be taken if needed (for example, cessation of scholarship, cessation of studies, and more).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">* In any event, the research progress grade influences the scholarship recipient\u2019s status (such as: continuing to receive scholarship) as detailed in the file entitled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/grading-research-progress\/\">Explanation for Grade Scale<\/a>\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The duration of studies measured by semesters is longer (almost double) than the duration of scholarship receipt measured in months. In accordance with this, the requirements from scholarship recipients (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/scholarship-criteria\/\">Terms of Receipt of Scholarships<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">) are different than those for students who are not scholarship recipients, and thus, the responsibility for being stringent that the topic of research and the duration of the research are suited to the possible Duration of Receipt of Scholarship is on the advisor.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is the advisor\u2019s role to allow for time to be dedicated to research and to create conditions that will lead to completion of the requirements for a degree (including finishing the research and writing the thesis) by the end of the scholarship duration.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is the advisor\u2019s duty to report to the department and the school any event in which a breach of the terms for scholarship receipt is known to them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<header class=\"entry-header\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"entry-title\"><strong><span style=\"color: #002147;\"><br \/>\nGeneral Information<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Scholarships for the Graduate School are given according to academic considerations only. A student may receive 1-6 scholarship units in a given month. The number of scholarship units will be determined by the department.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/general-information\/\">The value of Scholarship Unit<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0is determined according to the degree and the stage of research at which the student stands. Additionally, scholarship recipients will be given a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/graduate.technion.ac.il\/en\/general-information\/\">Tuition Scholarship (tuition exemption)<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For any period during which a scholarship is not granted they are required to pay tuition according to procedure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In tracks without thesis there are no scholarships (except for soldiers in compulsory military service or those in national service, who may
