\nResearch<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The department is continuing to build a new research unit focused on (but not limited to) history, philosophy, and ethics of science and technology. We are recruiting new faculty specialized in these fields and building new research labs. As part of this research-focused agenda, we are also recruiting new research fellows, visitors, postdocs, and doctoral students. Our current faculty members are also pursuing research in academic writing, intercultural issues, and literature. We are accepting doctoral students in all these fields as part of our growing research mission and activities.<\/span><\/p>\n


\nTeaching<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Core Courses for Undergraduate and Graduate Students<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In line with our main research focus, we regard courses in the history, philosophy, and ethics of science and technology as essential for adequate training of scientists and engineers. We seek to provide students with historical and philosophical\u00a0context,\u00a0and enhance social and environmental responsibility of the next generation of scientists and engineers. We pay particular attention to the variety, quality, and frequency of these courses so that each Technion student will benefit from them as much as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

English Language Requirement for Graduate students<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

A Technion graduate student must demonstrate good knowledge of English. For that, students are required to meet the Proficiency English requirement (unless they have previously met this requirement as part of another degree at the Technion or are eligible for an exemption as specified in the\u00a0<\/span>Graduate School regulations<\/a>, article 26.06).<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting the Winter 2022-23 semester, graduate students are entitled to 2 credits upon completing the English requirement.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are two ways for completing this requirement:<\/span><\/p>\n

Passing the English Proficiency Exam (3280013 \u2013 exam only track) \u2013\u00a0for students in their first semester of studies<\/strong>. Passing grade is 65+.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students in their second semester or student who did not pass the English Proficiency Exam, are required to take the course Enrichment in English for Graduates (328014) and pass the course exam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students in their third semester who did not pass the exam in the Enrichment course will have one last chance to take (or re-take in the case of a failing grade in the course) the Enrichment course and course exam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students who have not passed the exam or course by the end of their third semester will not<\/strong> be able to continue in their graduate studies.<\/span><\/p>\n

English Academic Writing for Master\u2019s Degree \u2013 3280049<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Master\u2019s students on a thesis track may take the \u201cAcademic writing in English for Master\u2019s students\u201d course.<\/span><\/p>\n

Students may participate in the course only after successfully completing the Advanced English requirements, including passing the Proficiency Exam before registering for the writing course.<\/span><\/p>\n

All master\u2019s degree students who have successfully passed the writing course #3280049 and continue studying towards a doctorate degree, must<\/strong> still enroll in the \u201cAcademic Writing Course for Doctoral Students\u201d (course #3280050). In the first lesson of the course, students will be tested to decide whether they must continue the doctoral course or whether they can receive an exemption.<\/span><\/p>\n

All doctoral degree candidates are required to pass the \u201cAcademic writing in English for doctoral students\u201d course during the first three semesters of their studies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The dates and link for course registration are distributed by the Jacobs Graduate School at the beginning of each semester.<\/span><\/p>\n
