The Faculty of Medicine

The Faculty of Medicine offers different study programs leading to the degrees of MSc and PhD in Medical Science.
The syllabi include formal courses, seminars, directed reading in the field of medical science and a research project in the fields of preclinical or clinical biomedicine, performed under the tuition of a faculty staff member

MSc program

Acceptance requirements

Eligible students are those who completed a bachelor’s degree (three or four year) in Faculties related to Life Sciences. The applicants need to hold a minimum grade point average of 80% in their B.Sc. studies.
The applicant is expected to find a prospective advisor from the Faculty staff, prior to registration. Forms of “Agreement to Serve as Advisor” are available at the Faculty Office for Graduate Studies.

Starting Winter semester 2016, all graduate courses will be held in English.

Applicants holding a Bachelor’s or a Master’s Degree with insufficient biological background, will be required to take complementary courses, the extent of which will be determined by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee.

Research

MSc students will be required to carry out a research project under the direction of a staff member (see clause 27 of Graduate School Regulations). MSc students revealing particular excellence in their research and studies, may be allowed to follow a direct track leading to a PhD Degree (see clause 24.07 of Graduate School Regulations).

Non-Thesis track MSC program in Genetic Consultation

The goal of this program is to provide the genetic consultant with updated knowledge in Medical Genetics, including: the molecular mechanisms of disease from the level of gene to protein, biological technologies for diagnostics and treatment of different diseases, evaluating risk of re-occurring genetic familial diseases and decoding results of diagnostic tests with relevant recommendations for intervention treatment.

Acceptance requirements

Eligible candidates are: Those holding a bachelor’s degree (three or four year) in Faculties related to Life Sciences. The applicants are required to hold a minimum grade point average of 85% in their B.Sc. studies. College graduates in Life Sciences should have an average academic score of at least 90 and minimal top10% rating.

Admission is subject to the recommendation of the Academic Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, and a personal interview.

PhD program

Acceptance requirements

Only applicants holding MSc or MD Degrees and who excelled in their studies (88% or above) will be accepted. The acceptance of applicants with foreign degrees will be pending approval of the Graduate School of the Technion. The decision of the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee will be based on grades, curriculum vitae, professional achievements and letters of recommendation.

Course Requirements

A minimum of 10 credit points will be required. Applicants with insufficient background in their field of specialization may be required to study additional courses.
Starting Winter semester 2016, all graduate courses will be held in English.

Research

PhD students will be required to carry out a research project under the direction of a staff member (see clause 35 of Graduate School Regulations).

Combined Track Studies for the Degrees of MD/MSc and MD/PhD

Four students having graduated from their third year of Medical School will be accepted every year into this program. Students with outstanding achievements will undergo further selection and when accepted into the program, will take a break from their studies in Medicine at the end of third year, in order to take courses and carry out research for the MSc Degree. The studies and research will be performed at any Faculty of the Technion. In accordance with the regulations of the Graduate School, a student will be able to apply for transfer to the direct track leading to a PhD Degree. Upon admission to the program, students are required to take a two year break from their Medicine studies (the one year break from the MSc program is included).
