Department of Humanistic Studies

According to Section 26.06 for a Master Degree and Section 34.09 for a Doctorate Degree, students must have a certain level of Language.

English Proficiency (Course number 328011)

All Students accepted to a Master’s degree are required to take this “Advanced English” exam at the end of the first semester. Taking the course is not mandatory. The Department offers the course to students to prepare them for the exam. Students who do not pass the exam within the compulsory time framework are required to take the course.

The exam takes place three times a year. The exact dates are published by the Department of Humanities and Arts.

Exemption from the Advanced English Examination:

A graduate of a high school or of an accredited academic institute in which the language of instruction is English, as well as an applicant whose grade in the verbal part of the GRE exam or the GMAT exam is in the 75th percentile or higher, or a PhD holder, will be exempt from the “Advanced English” exam.

Academic Writing in English for Master’s Students (Course number 328049)

Students who are studying on the Thesis Track can take this course. Registration is carried out manually. Academic Advisors pay part of the registration fee for each of their students. Forms are received from and sent to the administrative staff in the Department of Humanities & Arts.

Registration is on condition that students have passed the English Proficiency Examination and the test at the beginning of the semester.

Students who successfully finish this course and intent on continuing to study for a Doctoral Degree at the Technion, will be tested during the first lesson of the course for Academic Writing for Doctoral Students to determine whether they will continue the course or whether they will be exempted.

Academic Writing in English for Doctorate Students (Course number 328050)

This course is compulsory for all students studying for a doctorate degree. Registration to the course will take place via the Department of Humanities & Arts internet site.

Registration is on condition that students have passed the English Proficiency Examination and the test at the beginning of the semester.
