Rules of determining points for eligibility to dorms

Eligibility for dorms is determined based on academic considerations as well as socioeconomic considerations (which are not necessarily interdependent).

Determining points based on academic considerations

Points for a scholarship

A student who receives four or more scholarship portions – 4 points. A student who receives three scholarship portions – 3 points.

Points for teaching work at Technion

A scholarship recipient who teaches at Technion in an employment unit will receive points based on the table of employment units:

Points for academic achievements – Master’s

  • A student for a master’s degree who is in the first semester of his studies will be considered based on the student’s GPA in the studies for the undergraduate degree and receive points based on the table below.
  • A student for a master’s degree who completes one semester in the Graduate School with a current GPA and previous GPA, will have an average grade based on 2/3 of the undergraduate studies average, 1/3 of the graduate degree average. The points will be given based on the “graduate studies” column of the GPA points table below.
  • A student for a master’s degree who completes at least two semesters in the Graduate School and who still does not have a research progress grade will only receive credits based on the graduate studies GPA.
  • A student for a master’s degree who completes at least two semesters in the Graduate School and who has a research progress grade will have a weighted grade based on the aggregate average of the student’s achievements and of the research progress, based on the table below. Weight will be given for academic achievements based on fifty percent and research achievements based on fifty percent.

Points for academic achievements – PhD

  • A PhD student who is in the first semester of his studies will be considered based on the weighted GPA of the master’s degree. The grade will be weighed for him based on the following table.
  • A PhD student who completes one semester or who is in the second semester or more and who has accrued less than half of the credits required will have a weighted grade based on 2/3 from the master’s and 1/3 from the PhD. This average (aggregate) will be weighed with the aggregate grade for the research progress. Weight of 25% will be given to academic achievements and 75% will be given to research achievements.
  • A PhD student who has accrued more than half of the points required will be examined based on the aggregate average of academic achievements and the research progress grades, based on the points table below. Weight of 25% will be given to academic achievements and 75% will be given to research achievements.
  • A PhD student in the special track, who is in the first semester of his studies will be considered based on the student’s GPA in the studies for the undergraduate degree and receive points based on the table below.
  • A PhD student in the special track who has completed one semester in the Graduate School will be considered based on the aggregate average of the courses and the research progress grades, based on the table below. Weight of 50% will be given to academic achievements and 50% will be given to research achievements.

Additional points for the spouse

A credit of one point will be provided for the spouse studying in the Graduate School at Technion. Additional points will be provided based on the following for the spouse that receives a scholarship:

An additional point will be provided for a couple who serves in compulsory army service during a period that overlaps with the period of the dorm residence. (You must attach approval of the city officer of the compulsory service).

An additional point for involvement in the student union

Involvement in the student union, which provides confirmation of the above, will receive an addition of half a point.

Exceptions

The Dean of the School may consider an extraordinary request in the case of a student who does not meet the conditions for dorm residence, if there is an objective circumstance that justifies it.

Determining points based on socioeconomic considerations

Gross monthly income

The total value of the student’s scholarship portions, based on the academic status according to the information detailed in the Rate for monthly scholarship portions + spouse’s gross salary + teaching assistant salary + other income .

Points per capita income

Calculation of gross monthly income per person (up to 5 people).
