    The Interdisciplinary Program in Design and Manufacturing Management



    This is an interdisciplinary program and includes the following academic departments: The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences and Management and the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering.


    The Design and Manufacturing Management program leads to the degrees of Master of Science in Design and Manufacturing Management (MSc) and Master of Engineering in Design and Manufacturing Management (ME).


    Admission Requirements

    • Admission requirements for the program are subject to the regulations of the Jacobs Graduate School. In addition, a minimum GPA of 80 is required for applicants to the MSc degree, and a minimum GPA of 75 for applicants to the ME degree.
    • Another condition for admission is suitability for the program based on a personal interview, as well as completion of prerequisite courses if required


    Study Requirements

    The curriculum consists of courses aimed at promoting knowledge in updated methods in design and quality engineering and modern methods of advanced manufacturing. Special emphasis is awarded to management aspects of manufacturing recognizing the inter-relations between engineering and management of manufacturing systems.

    Studies toward MSc degree:

    The program is open to those interested in research. It requires the supervision of a faculty member from one of the participating faculties.

    The MSc study program requires 20 credit points of compulsory and elective graduate courses selected from the list below, submission of a research topic (submission is conditional upon passing the “Research Ethics” exam), and passing the advanced English exam in accordance with the regulations of the Graduate School, which grants 2 credit points. Submission of a thesis will grant 20 credit points.
    A total of 42 credit points is required to obtain the degree.
    The student must submit a research topic and accumulate 12 credit points from required / elective courses within two years from the start of studies.

    Studies toward ME degree:

    The ME study program is a non-thesis program, requires 35 credit points of compulsory and elective graduate courses selected from the list below, submission of a seminar/project of 5 credit points, and passing the advanced English exam in accordance with the regulations of the Jacobs Graduate School, which grants 2 credit points.
    A total of 42 credit points is required to obtain the degree.
    In addition to the list of elective courses in the program, it is possible, with the approval of the advisor, to take 2 alternative elective courses at an advanced level from the curriculum in the Faculty of Data and Decision Sciences.


    The list of courses in the curriculum is valid for both the MSc and ME tracks.
