    The Interdisciplinary Program in Polymer Engineering

    The Interdepartmental Program in Polymer Engineering is supported by the following departments: Biotechnology and Food Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

    The Interdepartmental Program in Polymer Engineering was established in answer to marketplace demands from the ongoing development of the polymers and plastics industries in Israel for scientists and engineers in the fields of polymers and plastics. Education and research in polymer science and engineering is spread amongst a number of departments at the Technion. Studies towards a Masters in Science (MSc), Masters in Engineering (ME), or Doctorate (PhD) through this program enhances the ability of graduates from various departments to integrate rapidly into the polymers and plastics industries.

    MSc and ME programs

    The Graduate School requires candidates for an MSc/ME degree in Polymer Engineering to have achieved a high grade point average in their undergraduate studies. The acceptance decision of the Interdepartmental Committee will be based on the candidate’s academic background, curriculum vitae, professional achievements, and letters of recommendation.

    The MSc program requirements are at least 16 credit points of course work and a research thesis. Before submitting an application, the candidate must find an academic staff member who agrees to be the research supervisor.

    The ME program is a study program specifically designed for practicing engineers and does not have a research component. It requires at least 34 credit points of course work and a 6 credit point seminar project.

    PhD program

    Before submitting an application, the candidate must find an academic staff member who agrees to be the research advisor. The acceptance decision of the Interdepartmental Committee will be based on the candidate’s academic background, curriculum vitae, professional achievements, and letters of recommendation, as well as on the recommendation of an Admissions Committee that will interview the candidate.

    Studies towards the Doctor of Science degree are meant for exceptional students who are eager to do research in the area of polymer science and engineering. This program is usually only open to graduates with an MSc degree who have demonstrated above average achievements in both studies and research. The program requirements are at least 8 credit points of course work and an original research thesis. In certain cases, exceptional applicants with a BSc can be accepted and at least 24 credit points will be required.
